Back to School Inspiration for Teachers

I was sitting on an airplane just last week flying out to Denver to visit my parents, and I was working on making lesson plans prettier.

Because it makes me happy when they’re pretty. 🙃

The woman next to me was a 4th-grade teacher and she told me she “just couldn’t” think about lesson plans yet because this past year was just too hard.

She looked like the phrase “lesson plans” was at least a little traumatizing to her still. Totally valid.

One of my good friends, who is also a 4th-grade teacher (total coincidence with the stranger on the plane), is spending the summer decompressing in Hawaii. Because this past school year was just so brutal.

I need to make friends in Hawaii so I can “decompress” there for a month. For now I’m just living vicariously through her Instagram.

I know this past year was incredibly hard for every teacher – not just all the 4th-grade teachers I’ve ever met. So I want to share some back-to-school inspiration that might be needed. ❤️❤️❤️

These two videos are short and incredibly inspiring. You’ll remember why you became a teacher in the first place and you might even get a little excited for this new school year.

Or hyped… as I believe the kids these days are still saying.

Back to School Inspiration #1

Every Kid Needs a Champion – Rita Pierson

I think I’ve seen this video in at least 3 back to school PDs before the kids were back in the building.

It’s just so good though.

I recommend you watch it on 1.25 or 1.5 speed (that’s what I do because I’m impatient). Or skip to 6:12 if you just want the part that will make you laugh and feel inspired.

Back to School Inspiration #2

What Teachers Make – Taylor Mali

I could watch this video on repeat and cry every. single. time. 😭

I hope these two videos are the back-to-school inspiration you needed to remind you why you became a teacher and why you get out of bed every morning during the school year.

The relationships are so important and you are making a difference in kids’ lives.

Now please excuse me while I go watch Taylor Mali 4 more times and scroll through pictures of Hawaii on Instagram.

Got another inspiring video? Please share it in the comments!
